Williams Historic Route 66 Car Show - Williams AZ
When most folks think of Arizona, they think of images of hot desert, cacti and roadrunners. However, up in northern Arizona in the small town of Williams, it is another story. Sitting among the pines at nearly 7000 feet in elevation, the “Gateway To The Grand Canyon” is a cool getaway only a few hours from Kingman.
We took a road trip out to Williams with the Arizona Pharoahs Car Club via Route 66 from Kingman to visit the 8th Annual Williams Historic Route 66 Car Show. The Pharoahs were just one of the many clubs represented at the show.
As the name implies, Route 66 is a big part of this event. The highway runs right through downtown. Williams was the last city on Route 66 to be bypassed by the Interstate System in 1984 when I-40 was built. In 1985 Route 66 was decommissioned.
The area boasts many fishing lakes and other outdoor activities, but it was on Route 66 that we saw the hundreds of classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles peppered up and down both sides of the Route.
The show was hosted by the American Legion Cordova Post 13 and raised money for local charities.
